SAN ANTONIO, TX - Texas Governor, Greg Abbott spoke to thousands of Republicans who gathered for their convention Friday at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center.
"If Texas was its own country," Abbott said as Republicans cheered. "Let me rephrase that. If Texas was its own country again, we'd have the 10th largest economy in the entire world.
"The Texas economy alone is larger than Russia's," Abbott said. "And that makes me more powerful than Putin."
As the crowd of Republicans continued to cheer, Abbott emphasized his point about Russia and Vladimir Putin.
"I'll tell you this, you had more to do with the outcome of our last presidential election than did Russia," Abbott said.
Abbott mentioned it was nice to be in a group of people who believe in God. "Well, it is great to be at a convention that believes in God almighty. And with people who would never take a knee for our national anthem."
He rallied the crowd, prompting several standing ovations, at the convention.
