SAN LUIS PASS, TX - Brazoria county leaders have voted to ban any swimming or fishing in the dangerous waters of San Luis Pass. The ban goes into effect on August 18th, preventing all visitors from "entering the waters of San Luis Pass for any activity." Two men died after they were caught in a strong current just this and 10 people have died in these waters since 2013. There have previously been signs on San Luis Pass, warning people of the treacherous currents--telling people not to swim.
Brazoria county commissioners started talking about this earlier in the month, and then they conducted a public hearing yesterday which made it official and voted the ban in. In June, the Coast Guard was looking for 19 year old fisherman who drowned, and Brazoria County officials were warning the public then how treacherous the currents were.
