SWAT team takes someone into custody outside southeast Houston motel
HOUSTON (FOX 26) - Members of the Houston Police Department SWAT team have taken someone into custody outside a southeast Houston motel. The team of officers arrived outside the Sunset Inn on Telephone Road at around 1:45 p.m. Thursday in its attempt to contact and negotiate with someone who had a gun and initially refused to cooperate with police.
After someone reported an assault outside the BreWingZ Sports Bar & Grill on the Gulf Freeway near Wayside Drive after 1 p.m. Thursday, officers found a suspect at a nearby bus stop. When officers went to detain the suspect, that person ran away toward the Sunset Inn.
Once the suspect stepped onto the Sunset Inn parking lot, police say he took out a pistol and pointed it to his head, causing officers to retreat and try to negotiate with him.
Police later contacted the SWAT and hostage negotiations teams to help get the suspect to cooperate. When the two teams arrived, the suspect dropped the weapon and was taken into custody without incident.
