Suspect in custody after shootout with DPS at a local Popeye's

The Texas Rangers and the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office are investigating the shooting that occured on Saturday, March 23 during a traffic stop. 

The suspect has been identified as 50-year-old Jorge Prober. He is in stable condition and is still being treated at Memorial Hermann in The Woodlands.

Montgomery County released the following statement on Monday afternoon:

"The Texas Rangers and the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office are investigating an Officer Involved Shooting that occurred on 03-23-2019 during a traffic stop by a DPS Trooper.

The suspect is identified as 50-year-old Jorge Prober.  Prober is in stable condition at Memorial Hermann Hospital - The Woodlands.

This is an active investigation and there is no additional information available for release at this time. 

Once the investigation is completed, it will be submitted to the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office for review.  Any further inquiries should be directed to the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office.'"

 

At about 8:50 p.m. on Saturday night, a DPS trooper called out for backup after shots were fired at a Popeye's Louisiana Kitchen in The Woodlands on FM 1488 at Westwood.

Montgomery County Hospital District responded to the scene with Woodlands Fire Department and Montgomery County Sheriff's Office. 

At this time, the area is roped off. A Texas Ranger is en route from Hunstville.

The suspect who was shot has been transported to Memorial Hermann in The Woodlands and is in a non-life threatening condition at this time.
