Study: 55 percent of Americans prefer to drink at home

Is going out to a bar too much work? A new report says more than a quarter of younger millennials believe so.

The report from Mintel, a market research firm, found that 28 percent of millennials between the ages of 24-31 prefer to drink in their homes because it takes too much effort to go out. Only 15 percent of Baby Boomers agreed.

Overall, 55 percent of American consumers said they prefer to drink at home. Drinking at home was perceived as more relaxing, cheaper and personal.

Thirty-eight percent of those who prefer to drink at home say it allows them to better control their alcohol intake.
