Houston Super Bowl Host Committee 'Play On' flag football game

The game wasn't just about scoring a touchdown or seeing how fast the students at Crispus Attucks Middle School can run -- it was about coupling nutrition with fitness and learning the basics of putting together a balanced meal.

"Around the neighborhood (Sunnyside), they really don't have a lot of variety when it comes to eating, so we're glad they brought the dietitian here to show them the proper way to fix their plates," said Natalie Proctor, an eighth grade journalism teacher.

Former San Diego Chargers quarterback Sammy Davis and Super Bowl champion Ellis Wyms helped in the effort at Crispus Attucks.

"The quicker we get to these kids and let them know the foods they should be eating, make sure they have  access to the foods that they should be eating and make sure that they have access, being active and being able to work out inside and outside," said Wyms.

The young active students certainly worked up a sweat and are going home with a few lessons learned.

Jamarcus Cunningham, a seventh grade student, said he learned the importance of eating a balanced meal.

"You're supposed to eat a balanced meal every day and you got to workout to stay in shape and there also some fun things that come along with doing the right thing," said Cunningham.
