Star of Hope opens new Cornerstone community for single women and children

- With the arrival of the cooler weather comes the grand opening of a new Star of Hope campus.
The Cornerstone Community is designed to meet the emergency and long term needs of 600 women and children. The Cornerstone Community is located on 2575 Reed Road, two miles south of NRG Stadium off of Highway 288.  The facility is located on 48 acres and includes emergency and long term housing, a chapel, park, cafeteria and classrooms among other things.

Before this facility, the Star of Hope Women’s Shelter in downtown Houston was often above capacity with more than 100 women sleeping on floor mats because there were no more beds.  At the Cornerstone Community, women are immediately paired with a case manager.

Women will now have access to medical services along with life and job skills programs designed to help them live independently. Once they complete the program, they’re able to move into one of 187 apartment units across the campus and still access the services on site.
