Son helps save mom shot in head during North Houston robbery

Houston police are searching for the two men they say shot a woman in the head in North Houston. Police say the men also pistol whipped the woman's husband before fleeing the scene.

Forty-year-old Veronica Luna is a mother of three. Her youngest child is just two months old. Her son, 17-year-old Uziell Mendoza was sleeping when his aunt woke him screaming, just after midnight Thursday. He says she told him that his mother had just been shot outside of their apartment in her car. Uziell helped save his mother's life, as she nearly died, at the Aldine Bender apartment complex in Houston.

"She was bleeding from the head, so I held her, so blood won't come out. I was just trying to calm her down and trying for her to not go to sleep," said Uziell.

Houston police say the shooting happened when the suspects approached Veronica's vehicle and then shot her in the head. Jose, her husband, says the men also struck him several times with a gun. Victoria is expected to survive, but doctors say she's lucky to be alive after the bullet lodged itself into the lower-right side of her head.  HPD say the suspects took off in a tan-colored, four-door sedan.

Veronica's husband says both of the men were thin. If you have any information, please contact Crime Stoppers of Houston at (713) 222-TIPS.
