Pilot killed after plane crashes into pond near Huntsville

A pilot was killed when a small plane crashed into a pond north of Huntsville, the Texas Department of Public Safety has confirmed. The pilot was identified as a Conroe resident.

The plane, which is submerged in the pond, was initially reported on fire. According to DPS the small plane took off out of Conroe and experienced some engine problems. It lost altitude then struck several trees before landing upside down in the pond. Only one pilot was on board.

Texas DPS was assisted by NTSB, Huntsville Fire Department, Huntsville/Walker County EMS, Walker County Emergency Management, Huntsville Police Department, and the FAA.
