Sketch released in Mother's Day murder case

“People talk about soul mates -- we were, no doubt,” said David Englerth. It is still difficult for him to talk about his late wife Nataliya Shal, especially in public, but he is anyway in order to encourage people to come forward and identify her killer.

Englerth, a long-haul truck driver and U.S. Army veteran, contacted the Baytown Police Department on Mother's Day because Shal had stopped taking his calls. When officers went to her apartment unit, they could see her lifeless body through the window.

Police will not release many details of her murder other than to call it "brutal." The trail has gone cold but police know somebody out there knows something.

“What happens at most apartment complexes?," asked Baytown police Lieutenant Steve Dorris. "There's usually people milling around, walking around the complex. The sheer nature of an apartment complex is they are clustered together, separated by a wall.”

Recently, someone gave Baytown police enough information to develop a sketch of a person seen lurking near Shal's apartment unit that day. Police do not know who he is, where he is or even if he was involved..Is he the killer or a key witness? Police want to determine who he is so that Englerth can get the closure he desperately needs.

“She's the only woman I've ever loved, you know?,”  said Englerth, his voice trailing off.

Baytown Crime Stoppers, Inc. has increased the reward to $25,000 for information that leads to an arrest and conviction in the case of Shal's murder. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers by phone at 281-422-8371.
