Single parents & kids get gift to remember, Rockets tickets

- Outside the Toyota Center you could feel the excitement as fans prepared to head in and watch game two of the Western Conference Finals. As a graduation present, five single parents and their children got tickets to a suite.

“When you’re a mom you don’t get to go to functions like this because you either have to work or take care of your kids”, says Toire Furlow.

“I’m excited because we are in a suite, it’s just a blessing to just be amount all the graduates with all the success we have been trough and just the accomplishment, it’s amazing “, says Alencia Washington.

Each family is a part of Buckner Family Pathways a nonprofit called Buckner International aimed at helping single parents graduate college.

Once they got up to the suite another surprise was waiting for them, $100 gift cards to Adidas.

“They were excited they were jumping up and down everywhere it’s our first experience in a suite especially watching the Rockets play in this caliber so it is very exciting for me too”, says Rodrick Jackson.

Everything donated by Adidas, the Rockets, and James Harden and his mother Monja Willis’ non-profit 3 The Harden Way.

“It’s just such an awesome night for Houston in general and just for someone to have the opportunity and they work really hard, so congratulations”, says Adam McKinney, with development and government relations at Buckner international.

“Thank you Mrs. Harden you’re awesome Happy Mother’s Day, let’s go Rockets, thank you Adidas, thank you Buckner, thank you everybody we greatly appreciate it”, says Toire Furlow.

The families will also be getting even more Adidas gear like clothes, shoes and backpacks in the next few days.
