Santa Fe church leaders hosts night of prayer and healing for community

A group of local pastors and churches in Santa Fe hosted a memorial and prayer service five days after the deadly school shooting. The Santa Fe Highway 6 Ministerial Alliance held the event to bring hope and healing to a community devastated, after eight students and two teachers were shot and killed at Santa Fe High School.

Since Friday morning, Pastor Brad Drake and other church leaders across Santa Fe have been running from the school, to the hospitals and to each victim's home -- visiting with families and helping this tight-knit community keep their spirits up.

"For me personally, it has been mentally draining, physically draining and if I, just a single church pastor is feeling that way, I know that our kids and our students and their families are that way as well," Drake said.

The hope is that Wednesday evening's night of prayer will help bring comfort and solace to the victims, their families and other students that are still trying to cope with Friday's senseless violence

"The worship team from one of the local churches will lead us in a time of worship, then several of the pastors will just follow one another. Some will be reading scriptures and offering encouragement. Some will be praying for specific groups and needs," Drake said.

The event was held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Santa Fe Junior High School football stadium.
