Rosenberg man facing multiple felonies involving three police agencies

- An incident which began in the Wal Mart parking lot on FM 1640 in Richmond, ended with the arrest of the suspect by Sugar Land PD at Hwy 90 and US 59.  The suspect identified as 30 year old Joey Ray Diaz of Rosenberg has been charged with numerous felonies.

The incident began shortly before 3:00 PM Monday afternoon when Diaz took a purse from a lady in the Wal Mart parking lot.  Diaz began running with the stolen purse only to be confronted by another female who grabbed the purse as Diaz ran by.  Diaz dropped the purse and entered this woman’s vehicle and demanded that he give her the keys.  The woman pepper sprayed Diaz and refused to give up her keys.  After several people came to help, Diaz exited that vehicle and ran to Murphy Oil in front of Wal Mart.  At Murphy Oil Diaz pulled a man from a vehicle as the man was getting gas.  Diaz took the man’s vehicle and drove away.

Diaz crashed this stolen vehicle in the 4500 block of S. Main Street in Stafford and took another vehicle by force.  Diaz crashed the second stolen vehicle and attempted to take two more vehicles before he was apprehended by Sugar Land PD at the intersection of Hwy 90 and US 59.

Diaz is facing charges from Richmond, Stafford, and Sugarland Police Departments.

Diaz was placed in the Fort Bend County Jail facing three (3) counts of Robbery and one (1) count of Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle from Richmond PD.  Diaz could face more charges as the investigation continues.
