Richard Spencer's appearance ignites backlash from Texas A&M officials and students

Richard Spencer's appearance ignites backlash from Texas A&M officials and students. Spencer plans to bring his message of white supremacy near the Texas A&M campus tonight at 7pm.  Protestors plan to demonstrate his appearance,  A University-sponsored event has been scheduled to counter his presence. Spencer reportedly once told a CNN journalist, "I think the reaction to Trump being elected and the reaction with the alt-right being popular is a reaction to it declining it (U.S.) as a white nation."

Tonight, thousands of people are expected to show up at Texas A&M University. Most of them will be there to protest the appearance of Richard Spencer.  The Spencer event will be held at the Student Memorial Center at 7pm, and the counter-protest is slated to be held at Kyle Field.

Richard Spencer, a prominent alt-right leader  who promotes white nationalism, is a highly controversial figure. he gained national attention after invoking nazi salutes and chanting at an event in washington d.c. last month.

One thing to make clear is that Spencer was not invited by the Unversity, instead a local activist, Preston Wiginton is hosting the event. Spencer is being allowed to speak because any member of the public is allowed to rent space on campus, and also because of his constitutional right to freedom of speech. this has left many people outraged since the campus promotes cultural diversity.

The campus community is not staying quiet about tonight speech--as the counter-protest is also planned today.
