The Houston Police Department is saying that an officer was involved in a shooting Sunday afternoon in the Montrose area.

Police say a man in his late 20's was walking down West Alabama near Yoakum Blvd. waving around what was determined to be a pellet gun.

When officers arrived on scene after getting several calls from concerned witnesses, they say the man refused to speak with officers. Police told the suspect to put his hands in the air, when they saw the gun tucked beneath his belt.

The man said nothing, then reached for the pellet gun which officers say looks very similar to a real gun. Authorities say that is when two officers fired their weapons.

The man was struck multiple times, and was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

Streets in the Montrose area were closed for some time following the shooting.
