Suspect who escaped from hospital in El Campo now in custody
WHARTON, Texas (FOX 26) - Wharton police say a suspect who escaped from an El Campo hospital Tuesday night is now in custody.
Police say Jermell Dashawn Burnett was arrested on drug charges Tuesday, but he injured himself while running on foot from police. Burnett was taken to a hospital in El Campo. Police say officers waited for him for three hours while doctors checked him out, but he escaped when they allowed him to go to the restroom.
Wharton Police Department, El Campo Police Department, Wharton Sheriff's Office, and DPS assisted in the search.
