HOUSTON (FOX 26) - A Harris County Sheriff's Office deputy has shot a suspect inside Ben Taub Hospital on the fifth floor, a Houston Police Department spokesman has confirmed. Police contained the crime scene.
The suspect, who was in the HCSO custody for a probation revocation hearing and charged with aggravated family violence, was wounded in the upper body. He was brought to the hospital after complaining about seizures.
The deputy shot the inmate after he used a homemade blade made from a metal headphone band to hold against the neck of a medical student. When the inmate, later identified as Ricky Lynn Hall, told the deputy to shoot him, the deputy fired his weapon.
Hall is undergoing surgery at Ben Taub Hospital and is in critical condition.
