Police pursue stolen backhoe in slow speed chase

FOX 26 - The slow speed chase of a stolen backhoe is not something officers see every day!

Police in Marathon, Florida, say 59-year-old Carl Blahnik took the backhoe for a dangerous joyride on the state's famed seven-mile bridge. Officers say he damaged the roadway and sides of the bridge as he drove. Police say he drove recklessly for about an hour and a half before running over a spike strip on the bridge.

        He was arrested. Authorities believe he likely stole the backhoe from a nearby construction site.
