Police investigating after 79-year-old woman found dead in her home

HEDWIG VILLAGE, Texas (FOX 26) - A 79-year-old woman was found dead in her home Monday afternoon appearing to have been brutally murdered, police say.

Police identified the victim as Janeil Hooton Bernard. Hedwig Village Police say at noon on Monday Bernard's body was discovered in her home in the 11100 block of Capri and her bedroom appeared to be ransacked. Her car was also missing from the garage. On Tuesday morning, the woman's car was found somewhere in south Houston.

Police say the victim's last contact was with her son at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday. Police are trying to determine a timeline of events. The woman's body was transported to Harris County Medical Examiner's Office.
