Police investigate officer-involved shooting in north Houston

- A Houston police officer opens fire on an armed aggravated robbery suspect.

The shooting happened shortly before 9:30 a.m. Sunday in the 700 block of Doverside in north Houston.

According to Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo, a man was working in a yard on Helmers when the teenaged suspect, armed with a pistol, robbed the worker of his cell phone and wallet by gunpoint.

The suspect fled on foot. Officers arrived within five minutes after the incident.

While officers were taking a report, a witness to the robbery pointed out the suspect and a foot pursuit ensued.

The suspect was armed with a pistol and at some point the officer discharged several rounds, hitting the suspect once in the stomach.

Police say the suspect collapsed near a house on Duff Ln. and first aid was administered.

The suspect was transported to an area hospital.

No officers were wounded in the shooting.

HPD says the incident was caught on body cam and will be reviewed.
