NEW YORK (FOX 5 NY) - A baby covered in vomit was found in the backseat of a car driven by the child's drunken mother, according to the West Virginia State Police.
Responding officers from the Princeton Detachment decided to clean the baby up before handing him over to Child Protective Services.
Photos of the baby in the sink at the police station and later being cradled by an officer have gone viral.
According to the Bluefield Daily Telegraph
, officers arrested the mother Tuesday evening during the DUI stop about a mile from their headquarters.
The photos show Senior Trooper D.C. Graham bathing the 1-year-old boy in the sink of the detachment’s kitchenette, wrapping him in a towel, and then cradling him.
“He was the best little baby. He had just started to nod off when CPS arrived,” Wood told the Bluefield Daily Telegraph.
The driver of the vehicle was charged with DUI with a minor. The boy is reportedly in the custody of a guardian monitored by CPS.
