Worker killed in trench collapse in Brazoria County

HOUSTON (FOX 26) - The industrial accident occurred at a construction site at Laura Heights drive at Savannah Parkway Monday afternoon in Rosharon.

The site will eventually be a new subdivision.

Investigators say workers were digging a trench for a sewage line.

When the Pearland Fire Department arrived the worker had already died. His name hasn't been made public pending notification of relatives.

According to Brazoria County investigator Mark Johnson the trench which was about 15 feet deep collapsed on the worker. Co-workers frantically tried to get him out.

At this point Johnson says the man's death appears to be nothing more than a tragic accident.

OSHA will also be investigating.
