Pearland man accused of attempted sale of a child

On December 22, 2015, Pearland Police were notified of a possible offense involving the attempted sale of a child.

According to the reportee, a local attorney, an individual he represents is the managing conservator for a sixteen-year-old male juvenile. The managing conservator wishes to legally adopt the child; however, the juvenile's adoptive parents have refused to sign any adoption papers to relinquish custody unless the managing conservator paid them.

The reportee advised that one of the juvenile's adoptive parents, Ronald E. Hoyt, had specifically requested that the managing conservator sign over the title to a truck in addition to paying Hoyt $1,000.  Based on the preceding investigation, Pearland Police detectives filed a warrant for the arrest of Ronald E. Hoyt for Sale or Purchase of a Child, a Third Degree Felony.

Arrangements were made for the exchange of the truck, cash and Hoyt's signature to happen at the attorney's office on January 15, 2016.  On January 15, 2016 at approximately 7 PM Ronald Hoyt was taken into custody at the attorney's office on the warrant.

The investigation is ongoing.
