HOUSTON (FOX 26) - The University of Houston chief of police is reminding students to be vigilant in light of multiple robberies over the last two weeks in and around campus.
UH police say they have seen three robberies around campus over the last few days. Campus representatives say in two cases the suspect or suspects were armed, on the third instance the suspect was armed with a BB gun. All incidents have taken place in the southern portion of campus near apartments and in a parking lot.
University police are stepping up enforcement, hoping to catch who did this.
“University of Houston police have stationed extra patrols across campus surrounding what has happened this morning. Our police chief sent a direct message out to our university community. Any crime is taken very seriously, certainly our highest priority at U of H is to ensure a safe and secure learning environment,” says the executive director of media relations Mike Rosen.
In a statement, Chief of Police Ceaser Moore says police remain committed to campus safety and patrols have been increased on campus. Chief Moore says UH police are working closely with HPD to find the people responsible for the robberies. He says one arrested has been made so far.
If you know anything about these crimes or see anything, you’re urged to call campus police at 713-743-3333.
University of Houston Chief of Police Ceaser Moore released this statement:
UH Campus Community,
We recognize your concerns in light of three armed robberies in and around campus in the last two weeks. I want to reinforce our commitment to campus safety. Any crime against any member of the University of Houston community is a crime against all of us.
I want you to know that I have increased patrols on campus and assure you my officers are working vigorously in conjunction with the Houston Police Department to identify the individuals responsible and ensure your safety. So far, we have made one arrest. I can’t guarantee that crime will not impact our University, but together we can foster a campus that is as safe and secure as possible. I urge you to:
- As always, be aware of your surrounding particularly at night and in less populated areas.
- Be vigilant. If you see something, say something. Report any suspicious activity. UHPD can be reached at (713)743-3333.
- Trust your instincts.
- Use the secure ride programs we have on campus including Cougar Ride and Cougar Pack.
