Paramedic charged with child pornography, relieved of duty

A Houston Fire Department paramedic, who has been charged with possession of child pornography, online solicitation of minor and sex performance by child, is scheduled to appear in district court on Friday.
Ruperto Martinez, 47, was arrested on Wednesday afternoon during a traffic stop on Scarsdale Boulevard near Blackhawk Boulevard in southeast Houston. Officers determined that Martinez had three outstanding felony warrants.
HFD released the following information in a statement on Thursday:
Ruperto Martinez has been relieved of duty from the Houston Fire Department since July 2, 2016. This case is currently under investigation and as a matter of policy we do not comment on another agency's on-going investigation, except to say we take charges like these very seriously.  The Houston Fire Department will continue to take the appropriate measures to ensure the safety of firefighters and the public while providing whatever resources are necessary in this investigation.
