Overnight fire leaves residents out in the cold

- It was shortly after midnight when the flames started at an apartment complex in northwest Harris County.

As firefighters arrived, they had trouble tapping into a fire hydrant on the property, and had to go to one off site. By the time they finally got a water source flowing, the flames had spread significantly

This is an old building, so there are no fire walls and there's a shared attic space, which made it much easier for the flames to spread.

Fortunately, nobody was injured. We're told a couple of residents lost their cats in the fire.  At this point, investigators are not sure what caused the flames.
