Officer who breastfed abandoned newborn credited with saving her life

(FOX NEWS)- A starving newborn who was abandoned near a remote forest settlement in Colombia was saved by a responding police officer who breastfed her while they waited for paramedics. Police officer Luisa Fernanda Urrea responded to the call and found the hours-old baby in bushes, Central European News (CEN) reported.

“I’m a new mother and I have milk and I recognized the needs that this poor little creature had,” Urrea told CEN. Medics said without Urrea’s actions the baby, who was still had part of the umbilical cord attached, might have died.

“I think any woman would have given her nourishment in the same circumstances,” she told CEN.

A local who called police after hearing the baby cry said she initially believed it was a cat.
