Natural gas leak contained in northeast Montrose district

A natural gas leak reported on Thursday afternoon in the northeast quadrant of the Montrose district has been contained, the Houston Fire Department is reporting. The leak was caused by a contractor clipping a natural gas distribution line.

Although affected residents may continue to smell an unpleasant odor in the air, they should not be alarmed, according to a City of Houston statement.

The natural gas pipe leak was reported in the intersection of Genesee and Dennis streets at around 2:48 p.m. Thursday. Houston firefighters helped residents to evacuate from homes in the immediate area as a safety precaution.
