Monsoon storm causes heavy damage and flooding

A Monday evening monsoon thunderstorm brought heavy flooding to valley roadways, knocked power out for thousands, and damaged trees and homes.

Underneath interstate 10 near 19th Avenue motorists became stuck in flooded intersections. There was brief flooding inside the Deck Park Tunnel between 7th Ave and 7th Street.

Several trees were reported down across Maricopa County, some of them bringing down power lines. At 10 p.m. power was out for at least 57,000 people and there was no sign of when power would be restored.

A Phoenix Fire station's doors were blown apart at Fire Station #1 hear downtown Phoenix.

Flights leaving Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport were delayed by at least an hour during the storm, but by 8:45 p.m. flights had resumed taking off. Anyone traveling should contact their airline regarding delays.
