EXCLUSIVE ON FOX 26: Murder suspect surrenders in teen's deadly shooting

HOUSTON (FOX 26) - He wanted witnesses so Jeffrey Archangel had community activist Quanell X accompany him while he surrendered, but before he did, he spoke exclusively with FOX 26 News.

"I want to say that I'm innocent -- I did not do this and I know exactly what happened." said Archangel.

"The real suspect who pulled the trigger is still on the loose," said Quanell X. "We know exactly who the suspect is and we even have a confession from the suspect." A recorded confession he explained.

It was Feb. 23 at around 8 p.m. when Javier Flores and his mother were at work at a Subway restaurant on Broadway when two men stormed in carrying weapons. One of them pointed a gun at Flores' mother. When the teen jumped over the counter to protect her, the robber opened fire. Flores was taken to a hospital where he died. The crime shocked the community. Crime Stoppers of Houston offered a reward to find the shooter -- first $30,000 then $40,000.

Surveillance video showed who investigators believe are the same two men robbing another Subway location two hours later on the same night. Archangel,25, was charged in that robbery and was released on bond. He was charged on Thursday with capital murder in Flores' death.

Houston Police Department Chief Art Acevedo said he's confident that he has the right guy. Officers found the murder weapon at Archangel's home and have identified multiple eyewitnesses. Police are waiting for the DNA results, but do they believe he was the one who pulled the trigger? Chief Acevedo says it doesn't matter.

"If somebody dies in the commission of a felony and there's a trigger man and a getaway man, guess what? Everybody needs to go for that murder," explained Acevedo.

Flores was a beloved student at Chavez High School.
