Missing teen rescued after hours of drifting in Gulf of Mexico

The US Coast Guard rescued a missing teen after a four-hour search near Tarpon Springs, Florida, on Sunday, April 10. The 17-year-old girl was reported missing by her family after she became separated from them during a kayaking trip and did not return. The girl told the Coast Guard she lost her paddle when her kayak was caught in the wake of a boat. She then drifted for several hours until a Coast Guard helicopter spotted her just after 10 pm.

Coast guardsmen responded in a boat to rescue the girl and brought her back to awaiting EMTs and her family. She was in stable condition with signs of mild hypothermia, the Coast Guard reported.
