Masked men attempt to abduct teen by gunpoint

The attempted kidnapping of a 13-year old by gunpoint has prompted Liberty County officials to issue a community alert.

According to the Liberty County Sheriff's department, around 3:30 p.m. Monday, the teen had just exited the school bus near his home in the 3700 block of CR 347 in the Plum Grove subdivision near the City of Cleveland.

As the young man got off the bus, officials say, he reported that two men in a small gold colored Lincoln car began driving towards him very slowly.

The two individuals got out of the car and both men were seen wearing mask which resembled a "smiley" face with yellow and red coloring on the mask.

According to the 13-year old, one of the subjects told the him to "get in the car".

After refusing and attempting to walk away, officials say, one of the subjects pulled what the young man described as a "small black gun" and again demanded that he "get in the car".

The boy started running towards his home and the two subjects drove away,say officials..

The young man was able to describe the two suspects from their dialect and skin complexion as being young Hispanic males of undetermined height, weight or exact age.

The Sheriff is asking that both the residents as well as school bus drivers be alert for any suspicious vehicles or one that fits the description of the suspect's vehicle and report the license plate number if the car is located.

Officials are asking the public to assist in reporting any suspicious persons or vehicle that might fit this description to the Liberty County Sheriff's Office at (936) 336-4500 or to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-392-7867. The identity of anyone calling Crime Stoppers will remain anonymous and a cash reward can be given for information leading to the arrest of these suspects.
