Man wanted for 4 years arrested after flagging down deputy for ride

A man wanted for aggravated second degree battery since 2013 was arrested on Sunday after finding himself stranded on a roadside and flagging down a deputy for a ride, authorities say.

The Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office says 30-year-old Jansen Simon had been traveling with friends when they left him on the side of the road and he signaled a deputy to stop. After a deputy identified Simon as a wanted fugitive, he took him into custody.

Simon was wanted on a warrant for aggravated second degree battery and two counts of contempt of court. According to deputies, Simon struck a man with a hammer, fracturing his skull, during an argument outside a bar on August 3, 2013.
