The Fort Bend County Sheriff has charged a man with murdering his ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend in Katy this morning. It’s the latest of at least four domestic violence murders in the Houston area in just the past week.

Deputies say this all started around 4:30 a.m. Thursday, when the homeowner’s ex-boyfriend visited her home on Daintree Park Dr. It started with an argument and quickly escalated into a stabbing.

Neighbors who were getting ready for work, over heard it.

“I came out to a slew of cars, and I kind of heard some screaming going on,” said Chad Lugo. “I didn’t know what was going on.”

Lugo would later learn about the deadly stabbing at his neighbor’s home a few houses down.

Deputies say the new boyfriend was with the homeowner and her three children when the ex-boyfriend stopped by.

“It all happened pretty quick,” said Maj. Chad Norvell with the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office. “She called 911 when they began arguing at the door. He left but then came immediately back. She opened the door. He came inside and got a knife from her kitchen and fought with the new boyfriend and stabbed him inside the dining area.”

Deputies got a vehicle description and quickly chased down the suspect, pulling over and arresting Godson Akran, 38, just three miles from the murder scene, according to the sheriff’s office. He’s accused of stabbing to death Taofeek Anifata, 43, in front of the homeowner’s three young children.

Deputies say the alleged killer is father to two of the children.

“This is the world and the society we live in today,” said Lugo. “There’s a lot of bad stuff out there, and we all have to be prepared for it someway or somehow.”

Being prepared is so important if you’re trying to break away from a violent partner.
