Man sentenced to 40 years in drunk driving case

HOUSTON (FOX 26) - The man that killed two people in a drunk driving accident back in May of 2015 will spend most of his life behind bars. This final verdict was read in court on Wednesday.

24-year-old Alejandro Guzman-Lopez has been sentenced to 40 years in prison, twenty of which he’ll have to serve before he’s eligible for parole.

But the family of the victims said Tuesday’s verdict doesn’t bring back their loved ones.

“It’s just caused pain and devastation beyond what I can accurately describe,” said the father of one of the victims, John Frazier. “It’s been horrible.”

Brad Frazier and his wife Shea, both only 21 at the time, were killed in the crash. They left behind their two infant daughters who were also in the car.

“Not only did he take my son, he took the brother away from the siblings, he took the mother away from her children and her family.”

Frazier added throughout the trial, Guzman-Lopez showed no remorse whatsoever for he did.

“It was bad enough that he killed my son and daughter in law, but he abandoned my grandchild.”

Witnesses testified that Guzman-Lopez tried to flee the scene before he was tackled by someone who happened to be near the crash when it happened.

“In my experience, had he not been captured that night it’s likely he would have vanished back to Mexico or wherever,” said a prosecutor in the case, Tyler Dunman.  “To see two kids lose their parents is up there with the most difficult cases that we work on.  I can’t imagine the life they have without their parents.”

Guzman Lopez will not be eligible for parole until he serves twenty years. He was in the country illegally, and will be deported if he ever breaks parole.
