Man rescued from manhole in Houston says he was stuck there a week

Early Monday morning Houston firefighters rescued a man from a manhole who says he had been stuck there for a week.

Firefighter were called to the 12400 block of S Sam Houston Parkway and Dover Road at around 2:30 p.m. on Monday for a trench rescue. A company doing repairs in the area found the man in the manhole and called 911.

Firefighters arrived at a grassy area along the bayou running underneath the Sam Houston toll road and found the man in a manhole approximately 10 to 12 feet deep appearing to have a leg injury.

Firefighters lowered a ladder, but the man was unable to climb out. The crew entered the manhole in a harness to lift the man out. He was transported to the hospital.

Fire crews contacted public works to report several missing manhole covers with high grass obstructing the view.
