HOUSTON (FOX 26) - A Harris County grand jury indicted a 48-year-old man on three felonies in connection to a deadly crash in which he chased a 14-year-old driver who egged his car, the district attorney's office says.
Christoper Lopez, 48, is charged with manslaughter, failure to stop and render aid, and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
The crash occurred on New Year's Day near Aldine Mail Route and Aldine Westfield in north Harris County.
Deputies say a 14-year-old driver and his two 15-year-old friends had been throwing eggs at other cars during their afternoon drive on New Year’s Day. When an egg hit a tan Lincoln, deputies say that driver flashed a gun at the teens and began to chase them.
Shortly after the chase began, deputies say the SUV driven by the teen driver ran a red light and slammed into a pickup truck.
The woman in the truck, Silvia Zavala, 45, died in the crash.
Lopez faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted of any of the charges.
The 14-year-old driver is charged as a juvenile with murder. His name has not been released because he is a juvenile.
