HOUSTON (FOX26) - According to the American Automobile Association, gas prices continue to drop to multi-year lows, with today’s average price of $1.97 per gallon representing the cheapest average price at the pump since March 23, 2009.
Gas prices have fallen for 55 of the past 66 days for a total savings of 26 cents per gallon and should remain relatively low because there is more than enough oil and gasoline around the world to meet demand.
Some are predicting or hoping for, gas prices of less than $1.00 per gallon, but many see that as highly unlikely.
GasBuddy.com posts the average price in Houston today at $1.70, the cheapest is $1.45 at the Love’s station on the North Loop (610) and McCarty Gas can also be found for $1.45 at the Pilot station at the same intersection
And for just 2 pennies more at $1.47 at Kroger on FM-1960 near Bammel Westfield Rd, Valero at Reveille Street and Park Place Blvd in southeast Houston and the Mobil station at 1960 and Cypress Station Drive.
CAMARILLO, Calif. (AP) — The average price of gasoline has dropped a penny over the past three weeks, to $2.05 a gallon.
Industry analyst Trilby Lundberg said Sunday that with the slight decline the price remains the lowest since 2009.
Lundberg says prices may continue to go down as crude oil costs drop and refineries run at a high rate.
The current gas price is 15 cents per gallon under its year-ago point.
In the Lower 48 states, the highest average price of regular gasoline was $3.01 per gallon in Los Angeles. The lowest was $1.64 in St. Louis.
The U.S. average diesel price is $2.31 per gallon, down about 8 cents from 3 weeks ago.
