The Hempstead Independent School District is placed on probation, this morning by the Texas Education Agency.
Letters went home to parents to explain the district's accreditation status and comes after a full review of the district's performance by the T.E.A.
The district's level of probation means it is just one step away from being shut down.
District officials say measures have been put in place to prevent that from happening.
Laurie Bettis, Hempstead I.S.D. Spokesperson says, "Probation is based on the 2014-2015 school year. So, all the things we have implemented and put in place this year will help us for our next year's accreditation which we hope to go back to warned and then move our way back the other direction."
About 1500 students are enrolled in Hempstead I.S.D.
