When the alarm company called Dr. Skip Fix says his first thought was the Nottingham Animal Clinic had been burglarized.

He says he wasn't prepared for what he saw when he got there.

"When I could see past the police car there was a rear bumper sticking out of the front wall of the building," Fix said. "I knew it wasn't going to be good but I had no idea how extensive it was going to be."

After crashing through a window and part of the wall the SUV traveled some 20 feet into the building.

The damage to the building is extensive.

Fix estimate sat least one hundred thousand dollars worth of equipment was damaged.

"Blood analyzer ultra sound machines anesthesia machine for surgery," fix said.

What's even more troubling for Dr. Fix.

One cat that was suppose to be adopted on Monday was killed in the crash.

Another was critically injured.

"Dr Whitney was not real optimistic maybe a 30 percent chance she's going to get function at best," Fix said. "She's got a lot of support so we wanted to give her the best shot we could."

None of the other animals inside the clinic were injured but most the doctor says were traumatized.

"I'm sure they were pretty panicked," Fix said. "A couple of the cats didn't even come out from underneath their little beds for over a day."

The Nottingham Animal Clinic has been at this location since 1998 and fix is hoping to remain here.

It's not known if the driver was impaired.

He ran off leaving the passenger behind.

Police are continuing to investigate.
