"A  life was lost tonight in a senseless killing because somebody wanted to take somebody else's property," said Sgt. Brian Harris with Houston Police Department Homicide division.

The man who tried to rob this Raceway on FM 1960 is on the run after shooting and killing the owner.

"A black male, about 5'6" to 5'7",  120 to 130 pounds very thin, 20-25 years old, wearing dark blue jeans and went back to the soda aisle, grabbed soda, placed it on counter then demanded money from the clerk," said Harris.

Surveillance video shows the clerk running and the suspect chasing him.

Police say the clerk ran to a backroom where the owner, 52-year old  Zia Siddiqui, was.

They tried to close the door, but the suspect forced his way in and ended up shooting the owner.

"The man hunted him down and chased him to the back office area where our victim was also in there. back in the office area, the victim was shot multiple times. We also believe the victim was able to also shoot back."

Police say they believe the suspect was hit and that they are checking area hospitals.

People left flowers at the site and some said they never expected it to happen here.

"I live across the street and pretty decent neighborhood, not the best, but not the worst. I just came up to get some gas and pull up and see this. I wouldn't expect it to happen here but it can happen anywhere," said Dontea Mondaine.
