Search crews are on a mission to find the driver of a truck that went flying off the road and landed at the bottom of Lake Conroe.  Officials have not released a name but they are looking for a man in his 20s from Montgomery County.

After a long day of strategizing and the joint effort between the Montgomery Co. Precinct 1 and the North Montgomery County Fire Department, crews lifted the wreck of the truck from Lake Conroe with a barge that had a crane on it.  Officials say around 4 a.m. Sunday morning the driver jetted through a guard rail at FM 1097 near Blueberry Road.

“This vehicle is completely demolished,” Captain Rusty Fincher with Montgomery County Precinct 1 said.

But crews had no luck in finding the driver.  They say someone alerted them after noticing a hole in the guard rail.

“It had to be going really, really fast after it went through the guard rail approximately 180 feet further and went to rest at the bottom of the lake,” Fincher said.

Divers found a piece of clothing they believe belongs to the driver.  They say he was last seen at a restaurant.  Crews searched throughout Lake Conroe taking many breaks because of the cool temperature.

Search crews will resume efforts Monday.  They believe the man was alone from speaking with his family.
