Montgomery Co holds record for most DWI life sentences

MONTGOMERY CO., Texas (FOX 26) - It's a record Montgomery County is not proud to hold, but prosecutors say it is necessary when it comes to drinking and driving.

Out of the 35 people serving life sentences in the state of Texas for DWI, seven of them are from Montgomery County. That's more than any other area, including Harris County.

Prosecutors there say judges and juries want to send a strong message to repeat offenders who get behind the wheel after drinking.

Tyler Dunman with the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office also says their DWI enforcement efforts, like no refusal, are helping them catch more and more drunk drivers in their county.
