Missouri City neighbors connected by The North Pole

MISSOURI CITY (FOX 26) - ‘Twas the night before Christmas on Sharra Cates’ street and many a creature is stirring. It’s such a great place to meet.  

“You can't be here and not be happy. We've met multitudes of people,” said Cates.

The “North Pole” now sits on the Boca Court cul-de-sac in Missouri City’s Quail Valley neighborhood. Santa Claus and his elves were busy meeting with children of all ages.

“I'm so ready I've been working all year long preparing gifts for all the boys and girls,” said Santa.

It’s a holiday tradition these neighbors have been committed to for nearly 2 decades now.

“We do this because of the kids you could just see it every time they come you can see their faces,” said Brian Corbin.

“I had a teenage girl that presented a picture to me the other night she was two years old she's now 18 and she's had her picture taken here every year every year since she was 2,” said Cates.

Dozens of yards spanning three streets are connected at the curbside with hanging white lights.  It’s perhaps a symbol of neighbors coming together as one.  

“We have all become very close as neighbors because of the connectivity of the lights,” said Cates.

Even more than that, it’s about spreading joy.  Families come from near and far just to catch a glimpse.

“None of us wants to move off the street so were all stay here so we been around for a long time just because we love this,” said Teri Petersen.

Her late husband was one of the men who started it all.  Both have since passed away. 

“They're both in heaven and that's the best place to spend Christmas to be up there in heaven with Jesus,” said Petersen.
