HCSO: No arrests made in killing of 4-year-old Ava Castillo

Four-year-old Ava Castillo was laid to rest Saturday but Harris County Sheriff's Deputies say they still haven't made any arrests in the case.

Senior Harris County Deputy Thomas Gilliland released a statement on the investigation to FOX 26 Tuesday asking the community for their help:

Neighbors say they're outraged that anyone could be cold-hearted enough to kill a four-year-old child.

Days after the shooting, Ava Castillo's uncle, Orlando Gomez, spoke with FOX 26 about his niece, saying Ava was a "real innocent, real sweet little girl" and that "she didn't deserve this."

Ava's mother, Diana Gomez was also shot during the attempted robbery on November 14. She was released from Memorial Herman Hospital after being treated for gun shot wounds. Her other daughter, Betsy, was shot but survived.

Julie Gomez, Diana's older sister, told FOX 26 that the night her sister and nieces were ambushed, her sister tried to protect her children.

"Diana saw the three men had a gun, she shielded her children. She tried to put her kids behind her, well one of those bullets grazed her arm and went straight to Ava."
