ATASCOCITA, Texas (FOX 26) - The son of a man on death row is now a fugitive wanted by the U.S Marshal’s Service on multiple felony charges including the sexual assault of a 13-year-old girl in 2014.
Billy Starks, the girl’s father, is a mission to make sure Daniel Baquer, 31, is caught.
On Thursday, Starks was joined by about a dozen friends to pass out 2,000 fliers near the intersection of FM 1960 and West Lake Houston Parkway in Atascocita. A flier complete with a color copy of one of Baquer’s booking photos and the number for Crime Stoppers of Houston.
Starks was just released on probation after serving a few months in jail for shooting Baquer in 2015.
“[My daughter] was 13 at the time. She’s fixing to be 19, and she hasn’t gotten any justice for this. [Baquer] needs his day in court. I’ve had my day in court. I’ve done my time. It’s time for him to do his,” said Starks.
Starks says Baquer taunted him at a restaurant shortly after learning about his daughter assault.
“When I looked back to see where Daniel was he blew me a kiss, and I just lost it,” he recalled.
Now Starks feels Baquer is taunting him again. This time, a few days ago, through a post on Facebook that read “I DARE YOU to be the one to come find me!”
Starks says the post triggered an inexplicable anger and accepted Baquer’s challenge.
Baquer was arrested for aggravated sexual assault and aggravated assault in 2016 but later released on bond.
“What made him dangerous is that while he was out on bond he committed two more felonies -- two more aggravated assaults,” said Alfredo Perez, Deputy U.S. Marshal.
Perez adds Baquer is known to be around east Harris and Montgomery counties, and has been on run with the help of friends.
“When we find out who has been helping him, they’re going to receive the same fate as Daniel Baquer when he gets captured. And that means go to jail,” Perez warned.
Starks says he is determined to help is daughter not live in fear of Baquer.
“It’ll let us live our life peacefully. Let my daughter go on and not have to worry every day if he’s going to find her,” Starks told FOX 26.
Baquer is known to associate with a motorcycle gang.
