BARBERS HILL, Texas (FOX 26) - Barbers Hill Independent School District was locked down after a suicidal man with a weapon was seen near campuses. Baytown police say that man was taken into custody before 2:30 p.m. Wednesday and taken to the Mont Belvieu Police Department station.
All the children and staff remained in safe condition throughout the negotiations.
Barbers Hill ISD released the following statement on the situation:
We have a dangerous situation progressing involving an armed and suicidal man in a field 400-500 yards across Eagle Drive from our campuses. We have locked down appropriate buildings and all police agencies are on the scene and managing the situation. All of our children and staff are safe and we are taking these actions to be overly cautious. Traffic is limited on Eagle Drive. We will notify you of all changes as they occur. I have complete confidence in Chief Widner and Chief Blasdel in containing this situation. The affected campuses in lockdown are Middle School South, Elementary South, and Kindergarten/Primary.
