98-year-old Harvey victim sees remodeled home for the first time

When we met 98-year-old Naomi Williams last November, Hurricane Harvey had dealt her a heavy hand.

FEMA denied her and the daughter of her long-time friend Alma Shelton reached out to Reporter Randy Wallace on Facebook.

We asked Shelton last fall where Williams would go if she was forced out of her mold-ridden home.

“I don’t know,” Shelton replied.

Fast forward to today. Here’s Williams seeing her newly remodeled home with all new furniture donated by Mattress Mac for the first time. Williams couldn’t contain herself while being shown her new surroundings.

“I know I’ll be comfortable for the rest of my life,” Williams said.

After our first story aired we heard from Trae Tha Truth and D.J. Mister Rogers. They’ve been helping scores of Houstonians hit hard by Harvey through their non-profit group the Relief Gang.

“We’ve had contractors steal money from us, we’ve had contractors come and start and never show up again and not answer calls,” Trae Tha Truth said.

“We helped her out as much as we could. We weren’t worried about the money or anything like that,” said Noe Saldivar with N.H.R. Renovators. “We were here to help out as much as we could.”

“I’m so happy that you were involved and you got them involved and this is what happened,” Shelton said.
