Thieves break into, steal from Acres Homes church

- Thieves seem to be targeting places of worship in Acres Homes.

Houston police said there are reports of at least four other churches being burglarized in the past two months.

The most recent burglary was on Wednesday at the True Love Disciples of Christ Church.

“Right now, we don’t have a PA system for Sunday morning service,” said Pastor Carl Colston Sr. of True Love Disciples of Christ Church. “It's kind of hard to replace, especially in this neighborhood. People [are] on a fixed income, and when they come to church, they want to be comfortable, and right now, that creates a problem.”

It is a big problem for this modest church, where the means to fill their air with music and sermons has been taken.

This is the third time this church has been burglarized.

Along with the keyboard, the thieves stole the generator, the PA system, and several tools.

According to police reports, the thieves pried open the front door and kicked in the burglary bars.

Equipment worth an estimated $6,000 was stolen, and repairs will cost about $4,000.

The pastor said that money could mean the difference in the church's survival.

“A $10,000 hit for the church means life and death,” said Colston.

Now, the pastor is fixing what thieves broke, hoping that the thieves know they took much more than just property.

“It's a sad thing when people will rob God,” said Colston.

If you have any information about the burglaries, please give Houston police's burglary division a call.
