Mayor Turner annouces plan to fix damaged Freedmen's Town bricks

FOX 26 News Reporter Isiah Carey

- The battered bricks that paved the way for freed slaves in historic Freedman's Town may now have a brighter future.

This comes after the mayor and activists in the Old Fourth Ward agreed to move forward with preservation. Part of that plan is allowing the city to move forward with removing even more bricks to complete a drainage project while also restoring and putting them back in place.

Mayor Sylvester Turner also announced he will create a Historic District in Freedman's Town.

The plan to immediately address and replace the bricks is expected to take 12 weeks.  The plan to create a historic district will take more time according to Mayor Turner.
